The head of Wales’ foremost charity representing ethnic minorities is facing a call for his dismissal following an independent inquiry report that accuses him of misusing public funds and running an organisation mired in nepotism.
Complaints have been made to the Charity Commission and South Wales Police about the alleged conduct of Naz Malik, who has been chief executive of the All Wales Ethnic Minorities Association (Awema) since 2001.Mr Malik has admitted paying off a personal credit card debt of more than £9,000 with Awema money, but says he regarded the money as an advance on future expenses. He also agrees he should have declared an interest when pay rises for his daughter Tegwen, who is Awema’s operations director and a former Welsh squash international, were reported to the board.

Well done for giving this story further reach Valleys Mam, the more light that is shone in to Labour's grubby corners the better, even if it doesn't change anything it might slow the decay of the corpse know as Welsh democracy.
not a fan of Peter Black but good on him for calling in the auditor general to look into this and i hope he and his colleagues ask some searching question of the Welsh Government.
This stinks especially at a time when public money is scarce and other organizations are laying off staff.

This story I would have though would have been picked up by the news and by certain bloggers in Wales. So is this man in with the in crowd then, looks like.
Mike German had to stand down when he was investigated (and cleared) of the same thing with the WJEC, so what is it with Malik?
Malik is a Labour man and a mason to boot or perhaps he's got dirt on Labour Ministers.

Sorry to disappoint THe Olde Boar but Mike German wasn't 'cleared 'of anything. The CPS decided that there was insufficient evidence to take the matter to court. As a result I instructed the then Chief Executive of the WJEC to pursue a case on one claim for petrol through the County Courts as a matter of principle. Mr German settled the outstanding bill before the matter reached the County Court.
Irony alert Jeff Jones former Labour Council Leader wants to talk about something other than the post, any thoughts on Malik's dodgy dealings and what the Labour Party should do Jeff seen as you were so keen to pursue Mike German who by Malik's standards was a saint.

The solicitors advised Awema’s trustees to report the matter to South Wales Police economic crime unit and to the Charity Commission as a serious incident.'
So Mr Jeff Jones will you support the proscution of Naz Malik? as a matter of principle.
This man is a bully. I have witnessed this first hand. There are very few people within the ethnic minority community who support the guy or want his 'service'. The AMs know this but they have failed to do anything about him for years. Perhaps now that it is in the open that public funds have been misused they will do something. The peculiar thing is: Where was the Board and the Treasurer when all this was going on?

Frankly I'm amazed that Malik is still in post. If I was the Chair of AWEMA he would have have been dismissed as soon as I had received the report and the matter reported immediately to the police. My previous post was merely correcting a statement made by another poster .

its not just BBC Wales and ITV Wales that, the Western Mail has gone quiet on the whole sordid affair since the article was published as well.
Are the Welsh media really that spineless and easy to intimidate or are they simply too close to the Welsh establishment to be objective and speak truth to power, this is a case of fraud with public money it has nothing to do with race or ethnicity.
I stand corrected Jeff, however you are not Chair but you could lead a campaign to get rid of him since I think he admitted to wrong doing!

Found this from BBC Wales Dragon's Eye in 2003 about Naz Malik being involved in a racism row and fraud allegation at AWEMA, how is the man still in a job in 2012?
