Why the venom aimed at Brown

Hat Tip Labour Uncut
Winston Churchill spoke twice after stepping down as PM. The first time was four and a half years after leaving Downing Street, on 25th Nov 1959. Both interventions were to acknowledge birthday wishes.
Both Harold Macmillan and Mrs Thatcher spoke just four times after resigning as PM. Mrs Thatcher first spoke three months after her resignation.
After stepping down as leader of the Conservative party, John Major didn’t speak again for eight months.
So why the big fuss over GB?

Because Brown made a big thing prior to the election saying if he lost, he would not immediately head off into the sunset to make loads of money like Tony Blair, but would continue to be an MP and represent his constituency. The reality is that he hasn't turned up to Parliament hardly at all since then. That is why there is so much venom.

Why the venom, because the Tory narrative of Broken and Bust Britain only works if they paint Brown as the worst PM in the whole history of the world.

well people have to blame somebody and GB seems to fit the bill very nicely!

It must be a very odd situation to be in, normally when a new boss takes over the old ones not stll around

I just think it’s unfortunate that GB's initials correspond to GB "if you dig" (from Rocket Man).

WEll on the venom front “we might well in all probability possibly” (RD) seen a few vats filled more than 'half full' with seething venom tonight (US time) vis-à-vis U.S. mid-terms (elections). There will be much "gnashing of teeth" on one side and jubilation on the other or so the political pundits imply.

There's a certain Welsh woman who grew up in Bedwas who can vote in these elections - I acted as her agent before what was called the "INS" (immigration naturalization service) - now called (I believe) the USCIS which forms part of the 'new' department of Home Security or something like that.

Talking about home security - the terrorists in Yemen/Afghanistan/Pakistan/Africa want a 'spectacular' on what passes for US soil - there's been a lot of activity/checking on the Washington, DC metro of late - especially at/near certain metro stop(s). 'What's up with that’?

Washingtonians know they are a target. There are people of all nationalities in Washington, DC - so a hit there will be a hit on the world. "I just have a bad feeling about all this - like something is going to try it on."

The White House thinks America should accept such an attack on US soil and roll with it rather than responding with military might.

Good luck with that.

Why? Might have something to do with Brown's legacy:

The biggest peacetime fiscal deficit in the history of our country. Unsustainable spending commitments. Record trade deficit, mass unemployment. Expanding gap between rich and poor. Massive national and personal debt, and a whole raft of other problems.

Thanks a bunch Gordon.
