Liberal Democrats elected Baroness Scott of Needham Market as their new President. No surprise there then.Ros Scott, beat Lembit by a margin of more than three to one
Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg congratulated her, adding that her election gave him “a powerful team” to work towards the next general election.
Some 28,782 Liberal Democrats – 48% of the party’s membership – voted in a postal ballot She had 20,736 votes, against 6,247 for Lembit and 1,799 for Chandila Fernando.
The CEO of the party said when the results were declared that “Barely half of our own members voted in the election for Liberal Democrat party President. And our membership is now the lowest it has been in any of our lifetimes.“Kidding ourselves about the scale of the challenges we face is a route to nowhere. Far better to address tough questions today than to face electoral reverse tomorrow... We can transform ourselves into a party that merits the support of growing millions, but this change must start today.”
It will be interesting to see the results here in Wales , between the pragmatic and experienced Jenny Randerson and the more on message but inexperienced Kirsty Williams.
The Party here in Wales has not really made or sustained nay profile since it was in Coalition wit Labour. I wonder how the membership is stacking up here.

God VM you are so knowledgable on politics that you lose me but I still pop over for an educational update now and then! I like Vince Cable - he's got a presence that many other politicians don't have. I'm a sucker for style over substance tart but in his case I think he's got substance too! Keep up the good work, hope I haven't dumbed down your blog by commenting on nothing of any real relevance!
What about Peter Black's comments? Peter Black’s ridiculing of a war veteran for his 'unnatural movements'. As Matt Withers pointed out in Wales on Sunday, Peter Black may come to regret his comments:
“IT’S never nice to kick a man while he’s down, so Liberal Democrat AM for South Wales West, Peter Black, may come to regret the description on his blog of unsuccessful presidential candidate John McCain’s speech-giving stance.
‘His movements appear to be synchronised by remote control,” he wrote. “Indeed, so unnatural does he seem that there were times when I thought that the Republican nominee was break-dancing with his arms.’
Whoops! The injuries McCain sustained during his well-publicised time in Vietnam left him permanently incapable of lifting his arms behind his head, hence his unusual movements.
Perhaps next week Mr Black will offer his insight into Gordon Brown’s unresponsive left eye.”
