When Islington Council has in the past been responsible for such bright wheezes as using £400,000 of taxpayers’ money to clean up graffiti and then offering free classes to local teenagers in graffiti techniques, and employing a Recycling Education Officer at £30,000 a year, it is not necessarily surprising that they are in need of a large public relations campaign to appease the overburdened taxpayer footing the bill for this politically correct madness.
So Islington is advertising today for this week’s non-job:

I don't really care about Islington but ........... there's no local democracy anymore here in Wales. What we have in Britain nowadays is a national local government service where officials transfer from one authority to another as their career dictates. They have no loyalty to any particular locality and the locally elected councillors are under the thumb of this new here-today-gone-tomorrow bureaucracy.
Wales - which I do care about - is being Islingtonised over the heads of the voters and their elected members.
Don't believe me? Just cast your mind back to some of those humiliating Welsh language returning officer announcements in the last Assembly elections.
I'm afraid that local government in Wales is like the old colonial civil service - the English officials lording it over the natives. Local government should be local.
